A Brief Update!

I started CCN's Cherry Hill last week and finished it last night! Ah, the victory of completing a piece! :) My rough calculations indicate it took me 12-18 hours of stitching to finish this small piece. Is this normal? It seems I have visited blogs of stithers who can whip out smalls in a few hours flat. Newly completed pieces are posted almost daily!

Today is a dreary day in Florida, not optimal for picture taking, but I will be posting my Cherry Hill in the next day or two. I also mentioned previously (I think) that I finished "Ruffled Feathers". I mounted it on an adhesive board and framed it for my friend, and I was able to give it to her this past Wednesday. She seemed to really appreciate it and said she knew just the spot in her kitchen where it would reside. I am so glad she is pleased. I will post a pic of that piece tomorrow as well.

I am off for now. Hope you are all well and stitching wildly!

Hello!

I just wanted to post a brief update. I feel like I am in blog-limbo. I have a vision of what I would like this blog to look like, but part of that involves finishing a CCN design for the header space ("Cherry Hill")! I am 1/3 done and once it's completed, I will take a photo and get it on the blog.

I am still stitching up a storm. I finished "Ruffled Feathers" this week for a friend. I started "Cherry Hill", and I worked a bit more on "The Daughters of Longbourn". I do promise to update with photos soon.

Yesterday, I was able to steal away for several hours to my LNS. Actually, it is not so local (75 minute trip one way!) but well worth the drive. If you are ever in Orlando, you must pop in to Needlecraft World. The owner is a dear and so helpful! And the ladies who gather at her table to stitch are a joy to be with as well. I so enjoy my time there, when that is possible.

Well, I will close with aa promise to spiff up this little space on the web soon... I know it is sorely needed!

Welcome to Anita and Thread!

Having been intrigued by blogs for a long time...and particularly to those devoted to all things cross stitch related, I have taken a leap of faith and created this blog: Anita and Thread. My name is Kristina, so you may wonder how I came up with my blog's name.

When I was a little girl, I had the best gramma and grampa in the world. They were Anita and Fred Rich, and they lived in a darling colonial-red cape cod style house in Rhode Island. They loved me, encouraged me, gave me a love for all things New England including its history, food, and landscape, came to all my soccer games and dance performaces and choir recitals...ad infinitum. My grandmother in particular gave me a love of books (she was a librarian) and colonial history (she was a Colonial Dame). She was also an avid needlepoint enthusiast. Through her example, I have discovered my own ardent passion for it's close relative, cross stitch. My grandparents are long gone now, but so much of what Gramma and Grampa loved has found a permanent place in my heart.

Anita and Fred acquired a few nicknames over the years, given by close friends and relatives, including "Pudge and Moose" and, less obscurely, Needle and Thread. Needle (Anita) and Thread (Fred) was a favorite monicher given to them by their friend, Harriet from New Hampshire. I think there must be several Needle And Thread blogs out there already (after all, I have arrived very late to this blogging party), so I decided to mix it up a bit. Anita is also my oldest daughter's middle name, so I will win a few brownie points with her.

And so in closing, this blog is named in honor of a very special pair who gave my life an idyllic start, and of whom I still think almost daily.
